This kitchen doesn’t get much lighting, so this was the stage to fix that. They are easy to wipe clean & the cupboards and drawers are all soft close, which is surprisingly nice!kitchen remodel

We cut down the peninsula so that it’s counter height and at one level which is a huge improvement, the counter is now one level┬ásurface. After a lot of shopping, I finally decided on the countertop, but no backsplash. It was really Formica as I found out when the installers came and removed it. And there was another surprise. Getting ready to make doors with that beautiful curly Maple and decided to put some new knives on the planer for the occasion.

With remodeling you can live in the space first and decide how to change it later. We spent time this weekend at the State Fair doing an Agility demo with the dog club, but I managed to get three base cabinets finished and a fourth ready to screw together. It’s just personal preference people, if you love your microwave, good for you! We didn’t push it and then she started bringing drawings for the baby home from school and in second week started wanting to hold and touch her more. I did some negotiating with various contractors and got the price down.

I couldn’t afford to hire a contractor and have them gut my kitchen and start over. Trying to keep as many electronics off the counter as possible….We decided that the microwave needed it’s own home. For one thing, the footprint was not going to change. This is when the project got a whole lot bigger, longer and more expensive!

Then my husband decided to get a bid to see how much it would cost to extend our wall out six feet. I hope it has magical powers to make my kitchen look as gorgeous as yours. I painted the inside of the glass cabinets the same shade of gray as the lower cabinets to tie the upper and lower cabinets together. There were instances where it even got slushy once you opened it. We had potatoes freeze down there too. Gag.) The arched drop ceiling leading out into the garage was removed and a lovely chandelier added.
