iTarp is
a totally new idea for disaster-relief aid.
october 2005 - Now with the dramatic situation in Pakistan,
which is/was the world's biggest disaster-relief-tent producer itself,
we need to think twice.
World-wide tent-producing reserves, and capacity is not enough to save
200.000 Pakistani from freezing.
We, as makers of felted tents in the West, propose the
following:
Let's take the most advanced of insulating AND waterproofing materials
that we have, and laminate them together.
Creating not a complete tent, but a thick, waterproof,
fire-proof, light, AND strong tarp.
Complement it with a some lengths of tying ribbon,
and good waterproof duct-tape.
Let's print a few options for the use onto it, tent,
roof, shelter.
Let's stick or tie these materials together, fold and stack them so they
can be dropped from aeroplanes, unfolding as it falls.
This will ensure it doesn't hurt anybody, and eliminates the need for
(scarse) helicopters.

Let's trust that the people who really need shelter, will recognise
it as the perfect material to patch their collapsed houses
for the moment.
Or at least, know how to build a temporary warm shelter themselves.

iTarp consists of three layers:
Outer layer:
strong nonwoven, waterproof, but breathing; Printed in striking colour/pattern.
Middle layer:
fire-proof nonwoven; Felt, Undercarpet, Lantor ISOL9, or similar.
Inside layer:
nonwoven, waterproof, but breathing.
We choose for a combination of nonwovens, because of it's unique resistance
to tearing and ripping.
2 or more Nonwovens, of very different fibre-size, adds-up the specific
rip-resistance of both, as opposed to a combination of Wovens, where only
the strongest layer counts.
Plus, non-wovens are well-known in the region we are focussing on now,
as felt.
This means the people there will recognise it, and it's value and possible
uses.
